OCIV Hawaii Canoes

Welcome our new edition to the Hulakai family, the OC4/OC3 ‘Ōpelu canoe! Our newest family member is made here in Hawaii by Hawaiian watermen. The ‘Opelu was designed by the Dowsett ʻOhana. This canoe is multi-use canoe that all can enjoy, whether it be a single hull or double hull. It is the #1 surf canoe for both big or small waves.

In early Hawaii the canoe was an important way of life for it had many purposes. It provided transportation across the seas to new lands and was a used as a tool to feed the family by using it as a fishing vessel and much more. Today we can still use it for a variety of things. The OC4/OC3 can be used to fish, sail, family recreation including big wave surfing, sports, and team building.
